Wood art creation. For those of you who are interested in a little info about me, personally, woodworking is a hobby I picked up to manage the stress of my real job as the lead pastor of Mission Hills Church, based in Littleton, Colorado. It’s a great church...amazing staff and congregation, but it’s a little on the large side which creates a constant set of stressors. Woodturning is how I keep the stress under control. My wife and I have two daughters and a couple of dogs.

Woodturning - Boards to Bucks? Seeing How Much I Can Make From a Walnut Board
Trying something a little new this week. I found this nice Walnut board at my local hardwood dealer and decided to see how much I can make turning it into woodturning pieces.
I was able to get 4 medium sized bowls and 2 tiny bowls out of the board with very little waste. In the video, I show the process of creating the turning blanks, mounting them on the lathe, and turning them into finished bowls.
Along the way, I talk through the whole process and wrap it up at the end talking about how much profit you can actually make from a project like this.
Hope you like this new format! As always, if you enjoy the video, subscribing, liking, commenting and sharing is much appreciated!
You can find these bowls on Etsy if you want one of them: www.etsy.com/shop/caswoodcraft

Woodturning - Aspen Tumbler
Переглядів 9182 місяці тому
Pretty simple woodturning project this week, but it sure turned out nice! This is a piece of Colorado Aspen tree, turned to allow a tumbler I bought at Michael’s to fit inside. After shaping and smoothing the wood on the outside, I applied TotalBoat Fast Set epoxy which, when turned under a heat lamp, cured up in about 10 minutes. This allowed me to sand it down and reapply another couple of co...

Woodturning - Super Buggy Ash Pedestal Bowl
Переглядів 3,7 тис.2 місяці тому
I had this piece of Ash from a tree that died in our yard. Ash itself is super hard, but this one had a lot of bug trails (probably what killed it) that had to be cleaned out and filled with epoxy resin. I used a UV curing resin that allowed me to sand the resin down very quickly. I put ash dust in the resin to create something pretty close to the color and grain of the wood. Thanks for watchin...
Woodturning - Cracked Elm Natural Bowl

I had this funky chunk of Colorado Elm drying in the garage and decided it was time to craft into into something cooler. Had some cracks that I filled using UV resin with Maple mica powder. Final finish was just some Walnut oil. Nothing fancy about the project itself, just good old fashioned woodturning techniques using both a traditional bowl gouge and a carbide tool for smoothing. Check out t...

Now go back and make small blanks out of the corners by adding a contrasting wood as you glue them into a star shape, then trim off the corners. They make excellent small dishes with interest. And if you embed a rare earth magnet to the foot, they become magnetic dishes which really sell well or make great gifts.
Love that idea! Thanks!
Looks like a globe for a strange planet... NAO!!!! PUT POPCORN IN!

Great turning tips, great details about the tools and the time and money invested. I'm about to start turning cups for reenactment, and this video is a saver. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I make enough money on my wood turning to purchase more wood. Thanks for sharing!
Right on! that’s always been my goal, too!
This is probably one of my favorite videos because I can now understand your process better and what all the machines are. I am intrigued by all the steps and tools you use. How long did it take you to acquire all the tools and machines? Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself. Always love your videos.
Wow, thank you! I started with a cheap lathe and super cheap turn g tools. I have gradually added higher quality tools over the last 4 years.
Well, it is nice putting a face behind the voice and the channel. Great video and beautiful bowls.
Thank you very much!
Nice work. Thanks for sharing
I learned many useful things from your videos, thank you very much
Nice chunk of wood brother Good job
What a great color combination!
great art,very nice
I think it just needed more air time before the pour.
very nice,like
Very cool but not very practical for use because of the bottom having a big hole in it so you should’ve filled it in but otherwise great job!
Oh my gosh. So so nice.
LOVE this.
Great piece!! Time to buy a smaller mould
Awesome!👍❤️
Nice sir.... Which brand is your lathe
My thoughts were first of all very beautiful and It looks like Islands in an ocean.
So glad to see red epoxy used on something. I'm so sick of seeing that sapphire blue on everything... this is gorgeous.
Thank you!
good job
Thumbs up for the positive vibes!
You are very creative, I learned a lot from your videos, thank you
This is absolutely lovely!
thank you!
Love the color contrast with the wood and epoxy.
Thank you! Cheers!
Those figured “heal overs” can be quite a challenge. One never knows in advance how the dead branch inside will influence the final result. Good job bringing out a successful finished project.
Beautiful creation of a beautiful mind.
Such a beautiful bowl! ❤
That is awesome! I love the colors!❤
You sure are an artist and master craftsman! Beautiful piece!
Thank you very much!
thanks you so much, like this video
So nice of you
The grain just pops on this piece! Wow! Nice work!!
Thank you very much!
The wood itself is beautiful, but the bowl design I don’t care for.
thanks for watching anyway!
Beauty , love the finish
thanks!
You should never use a spindle roughing gouge with wood in bowl orientation. That’s very unsafe as the tool isn’t strong enough and could break catastrophically. Pretty bowl.
Thanks for the advice!
Such a beautiful transformation 👏👏
Thank you! 😊
Very nice piece, well done. That is a great shape/profile I always struggle with. Trying to get that shape on a piece of Bubinga right now.
You can do it!
Beautiful grain.nice finish. What oil did you use
Thank you. the finish is Mylands Friction Polish
I really didn’t think I would like it but I do!
Wow, that’s a beauty. Loving the grain in this one.😊
Thanks 👍
Absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful piece! Interesting wood. I love the grain and it looked like it was easy to work. Bravo! 👏
Thank you very much! it’s pretty easy to work, but it’s surprisingly hard.
When you added that polish -- WOW. 👏
thank you!
I wonder if morta wood could be turned?
Never heard of it. I’ll take a look!
Nice work 😮 Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice work but that is not a bowl, it's a pot!
Den ble kjempfin
Takk skal du ha!
This is a very beautiful bowl. 👍 Do you sell your work?
Yes I do. That piece isn’t up yet, but you can find some of my other pieces at www.etsy.com/shop/caswoodcraft
