Now go back and make small blanks out of the corners by adding a contrasting wood as you glue them into a star shape, then trim off the corners. They make excellent small dishes with interest. And if you embed a rare earth magnet to the foot, they become magnetic dishes which really sell well or make great gifts.

Those figured “heal overs” can be quite a challenge. One never knows in advance how the dead branch inside will influence the final result. Good job bringing out a successful finished project.

You should never use a spindle roughing gouge with wood in bowl orientation. That’s very unsafe as the tool isn’t strong enough and could break catastrophically. Pretty bowl.
